Overview

A total knee replacement, also known as knee arthroplasty, is a surgical procedure that replaces the knee joint with an artificial joint. It's a common treatment for severe knee pain and disability caused by arthritis or injury. 

• The surgeon makes a cut in the front of the knee
• The kneecap is moved to the side
• The surgeon removes the damaged ends of the thigh and shin bones
• Metal and plastic parts are fitted over the ends of the bones
• The kneecap is put back in place
• The cut is closed with stitches or clips

Why you need it?

Severe osteoarthritis pain:

This is the most common reason, where the cartilage in the knee joint is significantly damaged, causing pain, stiffness, and difficulty walking. 

Joint deformity:

Advanced arthritis can cause the knee to become deformed, affecting your walking pattern. 

Limited range of motion:

When the knee joint is damaged, you may not be able to bend or straighten your knee fully. 

Pain that disrupts daily activities:

If knee pain prevents you from performing basic activities like walking, climbing stairs, or getting up from a chair, a knee replacement may be considered. 

Failure of other treatments:

If non-surgical treatments like medication, physical therapy, and injections don't provide adequate relief, surgery may be recommended.
