A bilateral knee replacement is a surgical procedure that replaces both knee joints with artificial implants. It's also known as a double knee replacement. 

• A doctor may recommend a bilateral knee replacement if both knees have degenerative arthritis or other damage
• It may be an option if pain relief and physical exercise are no longer effective
• It may be an option if quality of life is suffering

Why you need it?

Severe arthritis in both knees:

This is the most common reason for a bilateral knee replacement, where the cartilage in both knees has deteriorated causing pain and stiffness that impacts daily activities. 

Improved quality of life:

By addressing both knees at once, patients can experience a faster recovery and return to a more active lifestyle quicker. 

Convenience factor:

Having one surgery and one recovery period is generally considered more convenient than two separate procedures. 

Significant knee deformity:

If both knees have noticeable deformities, a simultaneous replacement can correct alignment and improve walking function.
